Short answer
First choose the destination country, then enter the number as it is dialled within that country, without the international code: MondialFax adds it for you. The form shows the expected format for each of the seven destinations and rejects any number that does not match it.
Country first, number second
In the form, choose the destination country: the international country code (+33, +32, +49…) is then added automatically. Next, enter the number as it is dialled within that country, without “+”, without “00” and without the country code.
Spaces, dots and hyphens are accepted and ignored: “01 48 81 76 45” and “0148817645” are the same number.
Expected formats
France: 10 digits starting with 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 or 09. Belgium: a national number starting with 0, 8 to 9 digits. Germany: 12 digits starting with 02 to 09. Spain: a 2- to 3-digit provincial code followed by 6 digits. Italy: 8 digits. Portugal: a 2- to 3-digit regional code followed by 7 to 8 digits. Canada: a 3-digit area code followed by the local number.
As soon as you choose the country, the form displays the format and an example, and it rejects a number that does not match, explaining what is expected.
Finding the right number
The most reliable number is the one on the recipient's latest letter. A switchboard number, or one found in a general directory, often reaches the wrong department. The site's dial code directory lists the regional prefixes of the main cities in each destination.
